Reading this excellent book about the making (and almost not happening) of the Mary Tyler Moore...

Do you have any advice for someone in Boston who is thinking of doing a comedy open mic for the first time? Like, should I have a prepared routine or just a general idea? I don't know what people usually do. Part of me wants to bring a large group of friends for support, and another wants to go completely alone so no one sees me bomb.

CHICAGO!

If you can believe it, because I can’t, I have NEVER performed in your lovely city. I had something scheduled somewhere years ago but had to cancel due to someone else’s illness. (Aren’t people a drag?)

Anyway - more than any other city, I hear from you guys, “COME TO CHICAGO!” Well, I am coming.

TO THE HIDEOUT SATURDAY MAY 4th at 7pm & 10pm

But it’s just for ONE night on my book tour! I am doing stand-up, most of it will be new to you. And the great Book Cellar people are selling books before and after the 7pm show and before the 10pm show. I am signing each and every book after ever show, giving hugs, taking pictures, etc.

The shows are at the very intimate THE HIDEOUT. I heard it’s awesome from lots of other comedians and due to my full time writing job, I can’t take a billion weekends off a year to do 5 nights at clubs.

So, certain cities like Chicago, where I know I have a groovy little following, I figured you guys could come out and support me at a more intimate, “alt” venue.

The first show is ALMOST sold out. So don’t delay. The second show could use some help. Now if I can’t find 150 people for each show in a comedy town that always begs me to come - like Chicago, I give up.

This isn’t meant to sound pathetic - instead motivating! It’s so hard to promote on Twitter, FB and Tumblr because you feel as though you are DRIVING EVERYONE CRAZY and then as my plane leaves Chicago on Sunday, I know I will get a tweet that says, “Will you ever come to Chicago?”

So, show up folks. I am not coming back again until next year. So do this. For America. And yes, if you’ve heard me on podcasts but aren’t sure if you will like my stand-up, you will love me live. I promise. I can say that because what else am I going to say? I suck? I don’t. I love doing stand-up and it’s always a fun, fun show, very different than anything I am ever allowed to do on TV. It’s more personal.

So get your tickets, gang. The are only $15. I’m like a saint over here, making sure you can afford to get in.
