Last episode I talked about MASKING our ADHD/AuDHD and in this episode I’m going over the phenomenon of UNMASKING. It sounds like that moment in a movie when someone grabs the skin beneath their chin and peels off a remarkably convincing mask, revealing their true face. Unmasking is not dissimilar to that, actually. It can be scary (unlike a movie, it’s scary for the person doing the unmasking). But it can be liberating as we consciously (and unconsciously) let go of the learned behaviors and coping strategies that we adopted in order to hide our ADHD/AuDHD traits.

In this episode: Jen talks about the other side of masking which is unmasking! She explains how we can safely and consciously choose to un-mask, the risks for some of unmasking, and how we may find ourselves unconsciously unmasking as people around us say things like, “You’re acting more ADHD/Autistic ever since your diagnosis.” But it’s not an act. It’s our authentic selves coming through.
